Newcastle Chamber Choir off to a winning start
18 June 2019
The newly formed Newcastle Chamber Choir has kicked off their legacy, winning the finals of the Open Choral section of the Sydney Eisteddfod last Sunday- taking home $3000 in prize money.
Choirs performing in the finals were drawn from the Central Coast, Sydney, Queensland, the Southern Highlands, Blue Mountains and Newcastle.
The Newcastle Chamber Choir is under the musical direction of the very talented Benjamin Lambert and comprises of auditioned members drawn from a variety of backgrounds and formed early in 2019.
Ben’s expertise crosses a myriad of musical genres which is what makes this choir unique. The choir sings repertoire ranging from very early classical and ‘traditional’ chamber choir music through to contemporary Australian choral arrangements to 21st century pop. Ben Lambert’s original piece ‘Thunder’ wowed the audience on the weekend.
Newcastle Chamber Choir won all three sections of the Sydney Eisteddfod heats entered late last month with tough competition. Competing in the finals is by invitation only and the organisers were so impressed, the choir was invited to compete in the finals immediately after their first heat.
The Newcastle Chamber Choir have an exciting year and busy year ahead with their eyes on success at the National Eisteddfods in Canberra in August and a pops concert at Lizottes later in the year.
Novacastrians will have the chance to hear and enjoy the award-winning choir.
The Choir will be officially launched at Babylon, King St, Newcastle on Sunday 7th July at 2.30pm with a fundraiser concert event. Tickets are $55 each and include concert, canapes and a glass of celebratory bubbles.
